Our social buddies programme

The Social Buddies programme brings together adults with learning disabilities and local volunteers who share interests and hobbies and have similar personalities.

Our Social Buddy pairs then get out in the community to do the things they enjoy – together.

Our current Social Buddies enjoy shopping trips, the cinema, going for lunch and going for walks. We encourage our social buddies to share their passions and interests with each other – just as friends would!

Meet some of our Social Buddies

Abby and Isy

Abby and Isy have been friends since 2010! They regularly see each other and have lots of fun.

Abby says "I like the way I go out with Isy because she does different things with me and I like the way she's just the sweetest ever friend and I like that she’s just as kind as my family."

Peter and Jamie

Peter and Jamie have now been friends since 2014! They love going out for food and having a laugh together.

"As Jamie struggles with mobility, we normally have a drive out and then stop for a drink and a cake.

His usual comment when I pick him up is - 'We're going to have a laugh and tell jokes aren't we'

His favourite joke is 'knock knock' and the response from him when I ask who's there, 'is I don't know'!!"
