Our social buddies programme

The Social Buddies programme brings together adults with learning disabilities and local volunteers who share interests and hobbies and have similar personalities.

Our Social Buddy pairs then get out in the community to do the things they enjoy – together.

Our current Social Buddies enjoy shopping trips, the cinema, going for lunch and going for walks. We encourage our social buddies to share their passions and interests with each other – just as friends would!

Would you like a Social Buddy?

If you would like to meet another adult who shares your interests for regular get togethers, our Social Buddies programme can help. Just complete the form with your details and we’ll be in touch.

Meet some of our Social Buddies

Sarah and Emma

Sarah and Emma have been friends for over a year. They both enjoy trips to the cinema and theatre, bike rides and walks around town for a coffee.

They recently completed the Pride of Gloucestershire Lions at Large trail and have enjoyed a meal out for Sarah's birthday. One of their first trips was going to see John Barryman live! It has been wonderful seeing their friendship grow.

Peter and Jamie

Peter and Jamie have now been friends since 2014! They love going out for food and having a laugh together.

"As Jamie struggles with mobility, we normally have a drive out and then stop for a drink and a cake.

His usual comment when I pick him up is - 'We're going to have a laugh and tell jokes aren't we'

His favourite joke is 'knock knock' and the response from him when I ask who's there, 'is I don't know'!!"

It’s easy to ask for our help, whether you’re looking for a social buddy, a gig buddy or other support.

Referrals

Through gig buddies, adults with learning disabilities get to enjoy live music events with a matched volunteer.Learn about Gig Buddies

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do and we’re always looking for new recruits.
