Volunteer with Building Circles

We rely on local volunteers to keep Social Buddies and Gig Buddies running. Volunteering with us is easy and can work alongside your other commitments.

Thinking of volunteering?

We've had some fantastic feedback from our volunteers. If you’re looking for a reason to volunteer, here's what they say.

“It brings me joy to be useful. I learn how to deal with issues in my own life. [I enjoy] meeting everyone and the social aspect.”

“I enjoy being involved with [adults] with learning disabilities and enhancing their lives whilst enhancing my own.”

How to become a Social Buddy or Gig Buddy volunteer

Start by completing one of our online forms. Then we’ll arrange a meeting to get to know you better, request a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and follow up on your references.

If we’re all happy to move forward, you’ll complete a day of training. Then, based on shared interests, availability and location, we’ll match you with an adult with learning disabilities who’s looking for a Social Buddy or Gig Buddy.

The next step is to meet with your prospective Buddy along with a member of the Building Circles team. If you and your Buddy hit it off and want to meet again, we’ll ask you to fill out an agreement form before exchanging details.

We’ll always be available to offer you ongoing help and support and answer any questions.

Leading a group project

If you’d like to lead a group project – like running a regular activity or organising a one-off event – start by completing our online form. We’ll arrange a meeting to get to know you better, request a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and follow up on your references. If we’re all happy to move forward, you’ll complete a day of training.

We sort out all the details such as funding, booking a venue, buying any supplies and inviting adults with learning disabilities to come along.

We’ll be there in person to support you during your first session, and available to offer you help and support and answer any questions on an ongoing basis.
